The United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) is the umbrella organization of organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) in Kenya. Established in 1989, UDPK’s mandate is to promote full, effective, and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations (OPDs) in all spheres of life.

The COP will serve in the ‘Wezesha’ project, a three-year USAID funded Activity aimed at promoting disability inclusion in service delivery, enhance employment opportunities for Kenyans with disabilities and strengthen disability inclusion practices in public policy planning and implementation.

The long-term objective of the Activity is to contribute to increased household incomes and resilience of Kenyans with disabilities.

Position Summary:

The Chief of Party (COP) will provide overall leadership to the project, provide strategic direction to implementation, develop a framework for learning and monitoring and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders. In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, the COP will maintain up-to-date information flow between UDPK, implementing organizations, The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), the National Government, County Governments, the USAID and other identified stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic and technical leadership to the Wezesha project.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer, serve as principal liaison with sub-recipients, government, private sector, project beneficiaries and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Programs, oversee and monitor quality of organizational capacity development to organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs).
  • Ensure project activities are implemented on schedule and within budget.
  • In close coordination with the Head of Programs, coordinate, manage and mentor project officers.
  • Oversee project budgeting and work in collaboration with the Head of Finance and operations on project financial management.
  • Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in relevant areas of expertise or international development preferred.
  • Prior experience in Senior Management position e.g. Program Manager for not-for- profit organizations, Chief of Party or Deputy Chief of Party for USAID/USG funded projects.
  • Minimum (8) eight years of professional experience designing, managing, and implementing international institutional donor-funded projects of similar nature and value.
  • At least 5 years of senior program experience working and living in a developing country, preferably with experience living in Kenya.
  • Knowledge of Government of Kenya rules and regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of USAID approaches and regulations.
  • Understanding of the human rights-based approach to disability is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to commit and adhere to UDPK’s mandate, mission, vision, and values.
